Work In progress for Le Voyage de Lulu En Pirogue

Updated: Mar 14, 2022

The decision to publish a book for children was instant but never planned. I had already been working on a particular book project for years (still in progress till date) and I had been anxious about how and when to release it whenever it became ready. In this case, we had only been living in Dakar for a few months and like a lot of people who move to a new country, I was going through the crossroads fo adapting to my new, beautilul and colorful environment. It was during one of those days that I wrote the first manuscript of Le Voyage De Lulu En Pirogue. Working on this project was an amazing experience even though I was nervous and excited at the same time. Nervous because I knew I hadn't thoroughly taken into consideration what it fully means to self-publish a book, but at the same time, I was excited to be working on something so significantly important to me. For this project I really wanted to work with a local artist, so when I met Assane Dione and studied his previous works and style, I knew we were a perfect match. As soon as I explained my book project to him, he connected to the story immediately and the rest is history!

Today I feel at home in this gorgeous country called Senegal, and I've met and worked with many inspiring and admirable people!

Promoting local artists in africa is a big step in giving value and recognation to their work as well as developing new opportunities for other upcoming talents.
